I only wish that there were no need for orphanages...but I don't think you want me to get on that soap box. :~) (I might not get off...) But, having spent a great deal of time in a Haitian orphanage where my children came from, I am grateful for the wonderful care and love that they received there...until they could come home. I know that they were much better off than being out on the street. So...while my dream is that all children had loving parents to care for them...the reality of some orphanages is better than the alternative...

A beautul compassionate poem with a wise message of hope. One of my mantra's has been that, we are the best when it comes to progress in industry, technology,and all other inventions, but in relationships and education on how to teach children the realities of life we are failures.It is lack of education and loving parents that produces most orphans. I wish it were made easier for parents to adopt; and I wish kids with special needs or older kids would get adopted as easily as "perfect" babies or children who are blonde haired or blue eyed. Heartbreaking write with a call for change, drastic change, in the adoption/foster care system. Very well penned, Bonnie; brava!

I write a lot about adoption myself; am not adopted, but have been touched by it: knew people who adopted children with special needs; it really made an impression on me. My stories about adoption are a tribute to those brave families! :)

So much red tape in adopting - many unwilling to open their hearts - but then again, so many wanting to adopt, but they only want "perfect" babies - white, blue eyed, healthy - sad. This one pulls at the heartsrings, Bonnie dear, as so many of yours do. You are so right, and really, there are a lot of people who want to adopt, especially babies.
I just read your blog about the 3-month-old baby who was given mephanphetamine(sp?) I did pray for her, and part of my prayer was asking God to give her a wonderful adoptive home. Unless, of course, her mother could be rehabilitated and become a fit parent.
