Oh how you cherish them and try to teach them honesty. This poem was written before it actually sunk in.

I don't drink but if I did, it would have been that day!

My Heart was in My Throat!

Our little girl was adorable and born in between two boys.
They were very dear and gave us many joys.
But my little daughter would make up fantastic tales,
So outlandish sometimes, all reasoning would fail.

I always dreaded school for I wondered what she’d say.
That’s what I was thinking walking in the school one day.
Parent teacher conferences where going on in school.
I dreaded going in her class and made into a fool.

So I decided I’d go to my youngest son’s class first,
For he always told the truth, no bubble he would burst.
As I sat there, the teacher asked if he had a problem with the truth,
Naturally, I indignantly said no, trying hard not to be too uncouth

She said he told her a story, that I had a bionic jaw.
I got it so I could eat faster; the Bionic man is what he saw.
Oh my, I did have surgery on my popping jaw.
He must have misunderstood, confused it with what he saw.

I couldn’t wait to go to the next conference with my oldest son.
For he was so truthful & honest, my nerves needed it a ton.
So I went in with confidence knowing good news I would hear.
But when I left his teacher, all I wanted was a beer.

For she told me he told a story that she knew could not be true .
His dad took him fishing in a boat on a lake that was crystal blue.
That’s true I said emphatically, his dad takes him all the time.
But that’s not what she didn’t believe, that was not his crime.

Apparently, in the middle of the lake the boat sprung a leak.
And the motor caught on fire, began his lying streak.
Still wanting to believe him, until he said a big bomb exploded.
That’s when she knew the truth and his story totally eroded.

I couldn’t get out of that room fast enough, in fact I almost ran.
Until I remembered where I was going next, then I could hardly stand.
Oh my, what stories did my daughter tell, I couldn’t take much more?
My heart was in my throat, when the teacher shut the door.

HaHaHa...and they say "out of the mouths of babes"! But you CAN'T stop where you did! There has to be another stanza or two...can't leave us with the door shut in our faces :o)

Hey Bonnie, don't be like that! ! ! so, the teacher shut the door and..? and...? don't make go there and squeeze the end of the story out of you, so...what gives?

I feel your pain! hee, hee...

How could you get mad at such cute kids!! This is a great story, and I like your abrupt ending, which leaves a lot to the imagination but also frustrates the curiosity. I had one who told whoppers, too, so I can emphathize with you, poor old Mom.
I love your descriptions of your reactions in each room!

Love,
Your Sis Connie
