How very brave our little ones our. I think they are born it bravery for comes shinning through so often in their childhood.

This child is now grown into a protector of many. He is the Commander of Northglenn Police Department.

Still Protecting Us!

It was late and I heard a noise outside, we were all alone.
My husband worked nightshift, long before cell phones.
Normally it was so quiet on the street where we were.
It was in the country, we hardly ever heard a stir.

But this night was different, I kept hearing different sounds.
I knew someone was out there, I knew someone was around.
Some of the sounds were loud in fact they woke my oldest son.
He came downstairs with a baseball bat; he was too brave to run.

He was only five then but you’d think he was grown.
He was certainly brave and I now didn’t feel alone.
I told him it would be alright, the doors were securely locked.
But he stayed with me anyway, with his baseball bat all cocked.

We waited a few hours and the noise outside was gone.
It was time for us to go to bed, myself and my son.
I tucked him gently and told him everything was alright.
I kissed him on the forehead and tucked him real tight.

In the morning when I awoke, my heart was touched so deep.
For there upon the step, my son sat fast asleep.
To me that night, that little boy turned into a man.
For he was still clutching the baseball bat tightly in his hand.

That is one cool son! Moments like that cause a lump to come to my throat and an overwhelming love for my child... They can cause so many issues, but when they step up to the plate and really show what they are made of... WOW! It makes me proud...and makes me cry...hee, hee...
