Terrifying Disease
The last time I saw him he stood strong and true like an oak tree.
So it’s so hard for me to realize how weakened he can be.
He now has dementia and his health has deteriorated too.
It’s hard for me to picture it, for the years have been just a few.
He is doing and saying many things that are scary for his wife.
I would never have believed this could happen, not in this life.
Age can be a scary time for those with this disease.
Losing cherished memories can bring you to your knees.
There’s not a thing we can do to stop it, it continues everyday.
Some days are better than others, but they’re living in a maze.
He’s so confused and frightened, and he seems to sleep a lot.
It’s hard to believe one little disease can bring all that it has brought.
All you can do is love them, and admire the ones by their side.
For they are the true heroes, the husbands and the wives.
I pray that God will watch over them and give the strength they need.
To get through all these trials, from this terrifying disease.
