All She Could Give Was Life
As she sat there memories of the past floated through her mind.
It took her back to the horrid day which was never hard to find.
For it was always there with her from the early hours of the morn.
It flooded her with sadness and left her scorched and torn.
The night before the abortion she decided on one gift she could give.
She'll runaway, by the hand of God, the child inside her could live.
She slept in alleys, in abandoned buildings and was very much alone.
Just staying away long enough, so it would be safe to return home.
On that awful day a decision was made which changed her being.
She had made it after a great deal of thought, but finally agreeing.
She agreed that fateful day to give away part of her very soul.
The little boy inside her, who could have made her whole.
“This is the best thing you can do,” is what everybody said.
They had no idea how her wounded tender heart had bled.
By giving this child life, so that this little boy could live.
She had no idea that day she ran away, just exactly what she did.
It took many years to realize the right decision was made that day.
To have wonderful parents and opportunities, for him she prayed.
As for her, she became a successful doctor but always lived alone.
She never married nor had any other children, as if to atone.
All these thoughts went through her mind as she was sitting there.
Waiting for the door to open, to see the answer to her prayer.
The Doctor who found a cure for cancer, heart disease and more.
Was the life she saved years ago and was walking through the door.
The son she prayed for and lovingly remembered all these years.
Stood right before her, a smile on her lips, no room in her for tears.
Jubilation swept through the crowd, there was no dry eye in the place.
Except for an old woman sitting there, with a loving smile on her face.

and your tales. - Gene.
In your story, adoption was the best choice. It's such an unselfish and loving choice for a young woman to make, and results in blessings for mother, baby, and for the waiting adoptive parents.
This poem stirs my heart with many emotions. I think it also can give us more understanding of the trauma these moms go through.
Love you, love your heart,
Connie
Magnificent, oh this penning gave me chills. Then a redeeming grace of life completely realistic. Unfortunately we know this happens everyday when someone takes a life, however to read this write gives one hope that someone else can be this brave to choose life and be selfless in order for another to live as the good Lord has chosen us to have.
I thoroughly enjoyed this outstanding penning from start to finish Bonnie.
