Ice Cream, You Scream!

How many times have your children asked for ice cream. That's all Little Marty wanted.

Poem Artwork

Ice Cream, You Scream!

Little Marty woke up to a ray of beautiful sunshine.
“Mommy, can I have some Ice cream, chocolate would be fine.”
“Oh no,” Marty’s mom said, “maybe later today, if you’re a good boy,”
“We can go can go to Baskin Robbins,” and Marty’s heart filled with joy.

All day long, Marty did as he was told and didn’t fight with his sis.
He wasn’t going to take a chance and miss his ice cream bliss.
The day went very slowly for little Marty but he managed it just fine.
He made sure he was extremely good, so he could go and dine.

At last, the time had come for all of them to leave.
Marty was getting his ice cream cone, hard for him to believe.
He ran into Baskin Robbins as fast as his little legs could go.
He knew exactly what he wanted and told the lady so!

He found a vacant table and immediately sat down to eat.
That’s when it happened, while he held his yummy treat.
A drunken driver crashed through the wall, right where Marty sat.
Killing three year old little Marty and two others as they chat.

Marty’s hand still held his ice cream as tight as he possibly could.
For his Mommy promised it to him all day, if he was really good.

Please God, hold him on your lap and give him some
chocolate ice cream, for he was so very, very good.

I read it when you first posted it, Bonnie, was flabbergasted and could not reply. So sorry but so upsetting when little chldren get killed in accidents. I know it sometimes has to be, God knows why, only he koows why, and we have to take his faith and pray that things were meant to be as they were. Could never understand some of God's ways, Guess I shall when I get to heaven.

Bonnie--
Read about this in the news.
So sad for all the victims.
Always amazes me how our lives can change in one split second.
Beautiful tribute.
Continuing in my prayers.....

I hope that drunk driver NEVER gets any sleep the rest of his life from nightmares of killing that beautiful little guy...The write was extremely well thought out, but, to be frank, I did not like the subject matter as I hate to hear of kids being killed...Ed

Oh Marty! Oh Marty! I am sure that you are sitting on His lap, the only question for me is, why He let that drunken driver start the car

This is sadness to the extreme. I am an alcoholic, BUT have been sober for 24 years. What stopped me? Had a blackout while driving home: can't remember nothing. A friend was with me (also drunk). By the Grace of God, did not wreck, hit or kill anyone. Stopped me cold turkey. Now if I could do the same with ciggies!

Powerfully penned, God bless Marty's family. Tragic, what can happen when people don't take responsibility for their actions. One never knows. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. PERIOD.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I have no tolerance for drunk drivers. This is one of the many reasons why! TRAGIC!!

(((HGUS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >Tears! <

This is when I think they ought to ban alcohol--NO exceptions!!!!!
