It Was Beginning to Grow

Cindy was putting her skates on when she saw a moving truck next door.
She was so excited about having new neighbors and her spirits began to soar.
There was a little girl being lifted from the Van by her father’s loving hands.
The little girl was put in a chair with wheels, for the little girl could not stand.

This little girl was about seven, Cindy’s age and beautiful as could be.
The longer Cindy sat there watching, the more she was intrigued.
A lady in white pushed the little girl to the house in her special chair.
Everybody seemed drawn to her, she was treated like a “Lady Fair”.

Cindy was a sweet little thing with not much tender loving care.
Her Mommy had to work real hard and she was hardly there.
Cindy didn’t have a nanny, babysitter or a caretaker of any kind.
She was on her own much of the time, but Cindy seemed just fine.

She went over to the neighbors to meet the little girl inside.
‘Would you like to come with me, would you like to go for a ride?”
“I will push you while I skate, I’m as strong as strong can be.”
“I will show you our neighborhood, will you come with me?

The much loved little girl’s name was Alice and she liked Cindy right away.
She could see they were going to be best friends, she knew it that very day.
Alice and Cindy were inseparable; each seeing something they needed in the other.
Cindy was so happy, for the first time ever, she didn’t miss her mother.

Then one rainy day Cindy ran next door and her best friend wasn’t there.
She searched but couldn’t find a soul, and noticed Alice’s empty chair.
She knew something wasn’t right, in fact, things seemed terribly wrong.
So Cindy sat there on the neighbor’s porch steps the entire day long.

Late that night a car pulled in and Alice’s daddy got out of the van.
“Where’s Alice,” Cindy cried, as she looked at a broken man.
“Cindy, the angels took Alice last night, she went to be with God.”
“Now she’s skating there in heaven, on God’s cloud of sod.”

Cindy’s little heart was broken and she would miss her best friend so.
For Alice planted a seed of love in Cindy, and it was beginning to grow.

when the heart of a little child is so deeply touched with sadness -- the event is often the most significant emotional event in their life -- they are never quite able to totally cope with the emotional consequences -- so intensely sad -- peace and love -- JMW

Death is hard on the young when they form attachments and don't understand why death has robbed them of a good friend. Poignant write.

A most extraordinary story, why we adults can learn from the children instead of trying to teach them our wrong ways?
Bonnie, this was a sweet one...and a keeper!
