Old Age

As we age many of our body parts that were once sound.

Even one ones that worked so well are now shutting down.

We can’t see as well and our teeth prevent us from enjoying food.

Looking in the mirror our skin turns ugly when we are in the nude.

Our faces fall and hair gets thin with each and every year that pass.

Our hearts grow weak and arteries are blocked with a cholesterol mass.

Our joints wear out and cause us problems when we try to get around.

In fact not many body parts work well and most become unsound.

The pain at times becomes intense just sitting in our chair.

It becomes so hard to live and life just doesn’t seem fair.

Our minds grow dim and we forget what yesterday used to be.

I think this is the saddest of all, I think most of you agree.

But one thing I refuse to give away is the spirit in my soul.

For that is what keeps me going, that’s what makes me whole.

So age can have my eyesight, my heart and all the other parts of me.

But I refuse to give old age my spirit until God sets me free.
