Between a Marble and a Weeping Place

Never mind me as you settle down

And relax against your cold white marble pillow.

All your cares and woes are behind you now.

I’ll just sit here and cry beneath this old weeping willow

While you slumber peacefully I can’t carry on.

No don’t mind me.  I’ll be alright.

Don’t spend a thought of me at your expense.

You have earned your right to slide

Through time as though there is no past or future tense.

While you slumber peacefully I can’t carry on.

I apologize, my love, my sweet heart

I sound so bitter and awfully selfish right now.

It’s just that I was so unprepared to have to part.

My heart insists that you did not really leave me somehow.

While you slumber peacefully I can’t carry on.

The damp and bitter cold that has settled

In the marrow of my bones as surely as your tomb

Smothers me in grief and pitiously I cry.

All I can see in store for me is sadness and gloom.

While you slumber peacefully I can’t carry on.

I don’t want to carry on!  Send in Death

To battle me and let me lay claim to what I need.

Let me wrestle that black heartbeat from him..

Give me a chance to make things right for you and me.

While you slumber peacefully I can’t carry on.

Fight for me and fight for us, can’t you?

Don’t just snuggle down and hug that soft rot.

Don’t accept this as final, get up, show you care

Just don’t leave me alone, memories all that I’ve got.

While you slumber peacefully I can’t carry on.

Okay, tell ya what.  Let’s make a deal.

Life keeps going on without you and leaving me here.

I have to keep going and you have to remain.

Its not like I expect I can live with great cheer.

But while you slumber peacefully, I must carry on.

Oh, love, letting go is so hard, in fact,

I think it may be harder than your cold white marble pillow.

But I must let go for I chose to live, but believe

I’ll be back to visit, and sit beneath this lovely old willow.

Be peaceful in slumber, while I carry on.
