If My Blessing Ceased To Be
Sometimes I am afraid.
Who am I to deserve such a perfect slice of heaven?
Sometimes I am afraid
That something will come along and try to leaven
The odds I am playing.
If my blessing ceased to be.
Who am I to be so blessed?
To have my life so graced with love and kindness?
Who am I to be so blessed?
I am not so special as to be one of those politest
People to whom everything is easy.
If my blessing ceased to be.
Before I met you I prayed.
I asked God to bring me someone to share my life
And I prayed, long I prayed
For romance, thrills, lust, the deepest joys of being wife.
And they are mine, all for me.
If my blessing ceased to be.
And most everyday is such a joy
We spend them making a history of family and us.
And most of the time the joy is high
It’s only sometimes now and then and just
The tiniest distracting pinch of there is no guarantee.
If my blessing ceased to be.
If it is all gone tomorrow
I hope I am strong enough and fair enough to recognize
That in a short sweet time
I have had such riches and rewards as some shall never find
And I hope I am grateful and let go gracefully.
If my blessing ceased to be.
Then again, knowing me
And I do know me fairly well by now you see
I’ll wail and rail and cry
And blame anyone who comes handy for my misery
And especially when its most unfair of me.
If my blessing ceased to be.
And after that, a letting of anguish,
I know my strength and fairness will let me come to recognize
That in a short sweet time
I have had such riches and rewards as some shall never find
I will be grateful and let go gracefully, now and then forever, softly grieve.
If my blessing ceased to be.
