Smart Is Not All Science
Care you about the source of it?
You who know what you know?
Mathematicians, functionaries,
And physicists brainy born.
Smart as some of you may be
You still cannot begin to see
The exquisitely painful lone
Profession that is torn
From the woman or man
Who by compunction
Or design, must create
What is in them to show or
Languish in a half-life
Of depression and guilt
Where many of them think
They’re not in good enough form
To qualify to give, just give
That which is so coveted
It is so hard to believe
We are as good as those before
So we struggle in that place
Between giving birth to all we are
With all we have to share and
Spending our time braining the norm.
You learn and study and read
And hold your dry books dear
Because they have the answers
From the Big Bang to flesh torn.
And I’m glad that it excites you
And we need someone to know,
But please don’t think less of me
Because to romance you I was born.
