Mother to Daughter to Mother
There are no words
To say what you mean to me
There are no vowels
That can adequately make the sound
No syllable can ever speak
The pain and joy
That in you, I have found.
I look at you
With your own babe
And I know in my heart
You’ll never be able to believe
You could hurt her somehow
Or drive her away
Leaving you to greatly grieve.
The problem is
You never imagine a plan
For anything but good
Between your two loving souls.
When things get messed up and
Your bewildered mind spins
While your heart’s blood emotionally flows.
It happened to us
I’ve prayed as hard as I could
That it never will
Happen to you and your child
But just in case one day it should
Consider this a lesson plan
Offered in hope that your misery’s mild.
