In the Desert Ocean Depths
Life without a porpoise, in a sandy inland sea,
Is like breathing seltzer water straight or mixing it with tea.
The bubbles full of CO2 can hardly help you thrive
And the thought of fizzy Earl Grey, what a horror THAT connives!
The waters that surround us here are very dry and deep.
They drown our spirits and swamp our souls, but through our lives they seep.
The beach itself goes on for miles and miles of sandy dunes;
The trick you see is to survive by humming looney tunes.
So pack your suntan lotion tube and grab your diving gear,
And take a dive into the depths of this water not-so-clear;
At the very least you’ll see odd fish and other stranger sights,
With which to rehydrate your views and bring you back aright.
But as for swimming in the schools of desert dolphin herds,
It takes a special kind of spirit to embrace what’s patently absurd
And dare to search for endless waves on non-existent seas,
In hopes of finding coolness in the absent ocean breeze.
At long last, after thoughtful pause and a year of desert nights,
A silver dolphin of flashing clarity may swim into your sights;
If it does, grab hold the porpoise offered and ride it out to sea
For the secret of fulfilled life here is to simply live and BE.
