I am slipping
into a black hole in the universe
where insecurities and solitude call my name.
They want me to retreat, sit, and share a cup of coffee and cigarette.
To my surprise (well, not really)
You were invited also.
You see,
You and me,
We have this thing where,
as artist,
We feel what most people can not touch
We think about shit that people want to leave alone
And we dream in a place where the sun attempts to peak her head.
We connect, my friend
my comrade.
We can retreat here together, you know!
This could be it!
It could start with you reaching inside of me
And cradling my pain in your bare hands
Speak to it;
Sing it a song in words that only we know;
Nothing silly, please!
Because I am serious…
We can make this our home;
We will fill our bellies with Puerto Rican rum,
Sleep on water stained cots
We can waste our nights and days
staring at the ceiling
talking, talking, thinking, painting…
Cook up a mixture of our blood and oil colors
And use it to paint a picture of a city we both love and hate!
And who knows…
Maybe one night, out of pure drunkenness
You will leave pieces of yourself in my womb
making me the bearer of a new generation willing to carry on the ways of our life…
