To the premiership Champions
a poem in tribute ,
Glory to Man. Utd,
the champions they all salute .
To understand defeat is how you appreciate success .
Ranked with the worlds elite, United are better than the rest.
The battle has been won again and the rest is history ,
To the club ,
the team and the fans ,
we’re proud of this victory .
The impact of their strikers are a measure of their firepower .
Its Manchester United's year .
What a great team they are !
Rudd Van Nistelroy destroyed them with clinical finishing .
The confidence of Ferguson never once diminishing
With goals from Scholes that wrecked their nets ,
and that magic hat of Keane’s
The Champions at Old Trafford still have theatres of dreams .
English premiership Champions of 2003.
What a great club,
what a great team,
everyone must agree .

Hah! I've read about this team in Roddy Doyle's books and various other places over time.. This is a marvelous tribute to an apparently hard-working and hugely loved bunch of footballers.. is this the team connected with Jack Charletom (sp?) and George Best? I was in Dublin last year to watch Ireland win in the World Cup.. I will never forget that! Manchester United seems to be very popular in Ireland.. your poem is VERY popular with me! (grin). wonderful write, Paul. katy. (oh, and I got plenty of teasing about the "overpadding" US "football" players wear.. hehe).

Utd Utd.... yes avid Man Utd fan for over 30 years. A great team and a great tribute.
Mind you, I used to feel proud of the way, the youth team were bought into the senior squad, mixing with a couple of overseas players, now not sure about the continuous signings.
