Touring Old Ironsides in Boston’s bay,
Walking the Freedom Trail,
Seeing the sights at Copley Square,
Riding the train out to Harvard,
I’ve been there.

Standing beside the Statue of Liberty,
Walking down Wall Street,
Eating out in Chinatown,
Admiring the lights in Times Square,
I’ve been there.

Looking up at the Capitol’s rotunda,
Peering through the White House fence,
Viewing the panorama from atop
The Washington Monument,
Touring the museums of the Smithsonian,
I’ve been there.

Circling the Cyclorama at the zoo,
Going Underground,
Watching the Braves play,
Climbing Stone Mountain as a boy,
I’ve been there.

From Jacksonville, St. Augustine,
Cape Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale,
Miami Beach down to Key West,
Orlando and the world of Disney,
Panama City and Destin…
I’ve been there.

From the Superdome and the ’Aints,
Down by the Mississippi at Café Du Mont,
Frequenting Bourbon Street jazz bars
And French Quarter eateries,
Buying art at Jackson Square,
Donating at the land-based casino,
I’ve been there.

So many more places visited:
Shopping at the Mall of America,
Looking down from the Gateway Arch,
Museum hopping along Michigan Avenue,
Paying homage at the Alamo,
Fighting traffic from Houston to Galveston,
Celebrating Bigness in Big D,
I’ve been there.

Riding past saguaros and sand through
New Mexico and Arizona deserts,
Heating up in Tucson and Phoenix,
Being awed by the Grand Canyon,
Losing my shirt in Las Vegas casinos,
I’ve been there.

Touring Beverly Hills mansions from the outside,
Walking down the Avenue of the Stars,
Standing in footprints at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre,
Riding the cable cars,
Eating at Fisherman’s Wharf,
Going artsy at Sausalito,
Driving up big hills and down big hills,
I’ve been there.

From coast to coast, from Canada to Mexico,
Swimming in the Atlantic, Pacific, and the Gulf,
So many cities, so many places visited
All throughout this great land of ours,
Yet…yet, I am struck with how much more
I’ve never seen…yet.
I’ll be there!
