A poem inspired by my recent visit to this location.
City that treasures its glorious past
Harbor where Civil War fighting erupted
A downtown historic district beyond compare
Restored, preserved buildings and houses abound
Legacies from Colonial times and Civil War days
Exquisitely grand houses line The Battery row
Stay overnight in a famous Colonial-era inn
Tour its historic district by horse-drawn carriage
Outside the city antebellum plantations await
Nowhere else in the U.S. saved this much history
Sights draw tourists by the thousands yearly
Coastal marshes, rivers, and beaches delight
I've never been there, but I guess I could guess. From your poem it reads like a wonderful place that would be even better with the lover on your arm who enjoys history like my ex did.
