A poem about roots both good and bad.

Some roots are “good,” whereas others are “bad.”
Not to know your own family’s history,
from whence you came or your background is sad.
You may feel lost with your heritage a mystery.

It’s good for most roots to be strong and deep,
say to anchor one’s teeth firmly in place.
And without strong, widespread roots what would keep
a tree in a strong wind from falling on its face.

At winter’s end, spring makes seeds come alive.
Newly grown roots set spring flowers in place,
nourish and allow them to sprout and thrive.
Obviously roots are great in this case.

Seeing a head of blond hair with black roots
will cause many people to wear a frown,
while it’s fine for people to set down roots,
to become established in a new town.

Yes, some roots are good, worthwhile things to see.
But when roots invade a house’s sewer line,
problems will result I can guarantee.
The plumbing will cease to function so fine.

Roots growing in the pipes will clog the drains
and make the toilets overflow … oh, no!
You get misery while the plumber gains.
Roots in your pipes are bad to undergo.

Bad roots make a situation dismal,
something righteous now simply gone wrong.
May all your roots stay quite beneficial,
those that serve where they rightfully belong.
