Our rivals’ intellect we often find suspect.
Little compromise we’ve come to expect.
It affects our lives, making it risky to neglect.
Times past saw opponents accorded more respect.
Issues cause friends and family to disconnect.
Constant discord stirs animosity unchecked.
Social progress demands our choices be correct.
Throughout history, correct choices haven't always prevailed. It's always a winner that prevails. Probably, the height of discord in this country came with the onset of the Civil War where brothers actually fought against one another. I guess that's why social progress takes so long. The strong survive and the strong are not necessarily right.
This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses
the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given
