A free-verse poem about keeping hope for the future.
When depression, despair,
and desperation sweep over
an individual or the nation,
then is not the time to give in,
for giving up leads to irreversible
consequences. No, instead
the circumstances demand
a response to the call for change.
By resisting, by making alterations
in behavior and resolve, a new day
may be just beyond the horizon.
A better, more pleasing future
is possible, though a price may
be required to obtain it.
Keep the faith that within every
person lies the potential for securing
the desired future. Remember always,
hope coupled with productive actions
is what keeps that dream alive.
So strive on, America. Strive on!
We all shape the future with her we know it or not. Just a positive attitude can make a great difference in what the future will be. As of pragmatic matter, we need to address problems directly and not spend so much time politically playing with them. Sure it will cost us to do some things. But if we do them now we will pay much less that it will cost in the future. The most important thing is not to make mistakes about our decisions today based on pride, ignorance or selfishness.
I believe that's what your poem is addressing, not the actions of those in power. We have power. I still see a large number of people supporting the actions of the leadership such as it is. They are the disenchanted ones that think that negative actions today will solve problems of tomorrow. They won't, but this group of people has a hard time learning.
Well, there are TWO SIDES to every story. As an INDEPENDENT thinker I think both sides have hope and a glimmer of glory. I recall a grade in behavior that the teacher would give in public school (grades 1-6 th). "Works and plays well with others" it said. Our leaders on both sides would rate an "F". Now wouldn't it be GREAT if it was mandatory that we all our leaders would just get along instead of pouting? Amen...

I believe that's what your poem is addressing, not the actions of those in power. We have power. I still see a large number of people supporting the actions of the leadership such as it is. They are the disenchanted ones that think that negative actions today will solve problems of tomorrow. They won't, but this group of people has a hard time learning.
