From watching reality shows, I'm learning that indigenous people are very careful when preying on animals for their food not to be cruel or greedy. They honor the opportunity to have the bounty of nature and wish to see it flourish so that they will.
However, the corporate supply chain is the blackest of markets with no conscience or willingness to perpetuate the species that are often destroyed to exploit the wild natural environment and tame it by destroying it altogether.
As your last stanza points out, we are our own worst enemy.
