deep dark house,
but bright moments came
then went,
while each slide
processed the past,
moment at the zoo framed
by simple silhouettes
in autumn cages,
you bunched up
in clean laundry
by the kitchen sink,
ice cream dripping
down your chin,
me laughing while
sparks shot from sparklers
at the Springsteen concert
blinding us in the flash of cameras,
last frame plunking us both
down near the lake,
pink-orange sunset
fading,
our arms twined around each
other, the memory
of locusts
haunting warm moist air,
one year
before the final,
sudden split.
