the foreign nation of the gas mobile,
its sides wrapped in steel,
its surface slick and slippery,
its innards thirsting, groaning,
the wheel turning,not resisting,
doomed prices rise
collectively,
each dappled sign
propelling costs obscenely
out of sight.

we must accept
profoundly,
god-like reckoning
urging:
fuel is priceless,
walking, running, lost
arts,
and bicycles remain
with their baskets
our only
frugal carts.
