wide expanse of forest
opening in a natural
amphitheater,
sloped toward the evening sun,
steep down, hazardous,
but Marli agreed,
her fragile body
carefully climbing,
the site was precious
an enabler for the sound
we hoped could be produced.
instant response from all,
the yellows,
the muted blues, the forest greens,
a spot for music.
the audience perched neatly
on mounds of verdant grass,
the orchestra gliding in,
applause polite yet building
to crescendos,
and the piano center stage
like a big black beast,
its nobility heard
while people hushed.
the Shearing sound
portrayed their lives,
their living memories
of class, of civilization,
and brilliancy proclaimed again
that music still thrummed
in hearts so dear.
