Upon reading that a quarterback had received a concussion.
Knockout
spasms control thoughts,
one arm lifts then drops,
inside thoughts turn
inward even more.
those unconscious beings
travel down legs
embedded in soil,
a quicksand moment
when dozens of kangaroos hop
and camels ride
with humps swaying;
standing becomes a wobbly blur
and friendly faces
warp with each move.
empty your pockets
for the poor
while weak-kneed muscles
collapse in pain.
have eyeglasses been lost?
will terror trains
rumble in eardrums?
positions taken
in backyards
bring grassy boulders
into view;
large ants crawl
on eyeballs
and blinking takes
so much effort
why try?

Not being American, I've never played American Football. But we do have an equally bruising sport over here (played without all that padding) called Rugby that I did play ..... and got KO'd once playing it. Smashed my cheekbone in 7 different places I did and saw many things in the process...many of which you described very graphically here. Excellent effort.
