Stillness on the morning pond,
no boats slipping through cool-clear.
Geese off somewhere,
flying behind home-made airships,
going south, going south.
Weather changes quickly,
a hint of dark clouds, a shift of wind;
the placid waters shiver and move,
snippets of a wave, then three, seven,
splashing in secret
next to the bank
where we had found
duck eggs
in early summer.
We wrap our coats quickly, sink
our hands deep into pockets.
North wind lifts up collars,
shakes us deeply,
but we walk on anyway,
moving toward snow.
this will be my "one last poem to read before bed." suffering a bad cold and bundled in flannel, you took me back to the woods today, where I could not go ... and you have penned it well.
Felt the chill and that sudden change in season and temperature - it's like that here today, too. Hope the oncoming winter is not going to be too hard for us all. Poignant, Larry. TY Kate xx
