toes knew when to visit,
not long after the storm but
before the hot coffee
could be poured, the nightly
paper stashed inside
by the couch
after its
thump would hit the porch door,
hard,
then, then, the toes
would linger on the vent,
absorbing
warm, coal-heat
forced up from below,
its coke-smell fitting
nicely with the mint of cocoa
for the kids, mom's coffee
still bubbling in its
canister on the gas stove,
and father slamming the door
to the Willys just
before stomping into
the entryway, taking
off his gloves
touched by frost,
throwing them
down upon the carpet,
flinging frost
across the tiles.

Wonderful write. You can take the simplest of thought and weave it into something fantastic. The mark of true writer that sees beyond. Nice work.
"Honey, I'm home!!" - you've captured the most wonderful moment of The Return Of The All-Conquering Hero so visually and cinematically here, Larry... your poet's eye is always like the wide-angled lens of a movie camera and your voice one of revelation..."The camera never lies", so it is said...!! Can just smell the cocoa and see the table groaning under the weight of the Thanksgiving Feast! But, baby, it's cold outside...! Love this, TY Kate xx
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
us.love the imagery,well done!
