if there be pride
in holding our senses
lightly,
our own abilities
swaying within tight circles,
might we not portray meanings
off-kilter at best?
might we not shout
those phrases to the sky
and bring down tumults
both of brain
and body?
yet we sit,
instead, our microphones
clicked off,
our sizeable banks
of knowledge,
our arithmetic connections
simmering, settling
for so much less.
