Ode to Diets

murderous waves of melting chocolate bars
seem to attack the spineless dieters
and slurp thick coats of butterscotch
on top of glazed hams nightly,
while farm boys carry barbecue
to secret places.

oh the poor fat man,
slave to urgings unknown since
cadavers rose from cream sauces
long ago in Mesopotamia
on the River Styx
or some other god-awful
place where curdled goat’s milk
had been a delicacy.

now resolute folks flock
to K-Marts buying oatmeal
ice cream and truly
devastating tofu meat patties,
washing said delights into stomachs
clothed with XXX sized nylon,
just enough to hold them in
before diet beer foams in
transformed quagmires,
and gypsy balladeers, singing
tunes by Willie Nelson toking on
fruit lollipops, plop grease
down stuffed shirts.

You hit the nail right on the head. It's a vicious circle of one delicacy after another for us fat folks. Excuse me while I get my third bowl of no-fat chocolate yogurt ice cream. Good thing I'm in my 80's as this might kill me one day.

I think it is all a conspiracy, Larry. The diet centers are professing to make us thin if we follow their plan and eat their gross and tasteless food while the fast food chains are serving up temptation...both are getting very rich. When I lived in Cincinnati, the Jenny Craig Center was right next door to the Hostess Outlet Store in the same strip mall...I always wondered which one was there first. Cha-Ching$

She Intrigues Me, Revelations Of Love by Jon Willey

If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
