too cute for most, invisible in morning
sunshine, the creatures live at rates
so speedy, their wings flapping
till invisibility becomes a metaphor
for infinity; these thumb-sized creatures
can amaze the way Stravinsky frightens,
motions bleeding into conscience,
high-pitched screams blending with the lawnmowers
of summer, beauty castigated by gasoline-fired noise,
blistering eardrums;
awake and watch!
no video can stop-motion such little
hearts, eager beaks poking flowers
for edible ambrosia, flitting away as if
their minds could brew wine.
