sleepy eyes see jazz, tired ears hear
clouds scudding across
the bay;
surreal noises squeak on glass windows,
and donuts cry out to be
eaten; phantasms rise like mist
from dirty clothing; tomorrow’s
tasks frighten the brave;
one last drink to ponder;
let it slip down throats
willing those nightmares to be
gargled till dawn;
friends smile dusty gestures,
no sense noises rise
from pretty mouths,
their lipstick traces
left on cups of cold
coffee, cigarettes lending
dreary smog to night’s chill.
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.

Your poetry evokes such clear imagery, one lives each word. Truly brilliant!
I think my favorite lines are
"...one last drink to ponder;
let it slip down throats
willing those nightmares to be
gargled till dawn;...." <-----------MAGNIFICENT!
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)
