those at the bottom
wondered,
death or life?
each quizzical notion
caused pain,
a willingness to fly
if necessary,
anything to lift
heavy wings toward
light.
but body weight lures
senses to dust,
each step
repelled instantly,
no one moving,
just the weight
of death spiraling down.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
