green scum on the river,
aeration bottled up in tubes
too rich for budgets.
fish die,
belly up white in green muck,
but I can see your eyes
bright and yearning. just
ten long steps across the murk.
if only feet could find
the strong, solid rocks
to plant, the way would clear,
the bouncing, water-logged limbs
would part, the sewer smell would purify,
and your soft hand would guide me home.
You are just such an old romantic to be wooing a lady in such idyllic surroundings, Larry! But sadly, I guess, for many, the choice of environment in which to exercise a courtship is pretty restricted. As others have rightly said, "Love conquers all" - even the pong of sewage, perhaps... love has no sense of smell, as well as being blind!! Hmmm, glad I wasn't fishing in THIS particular stretch of water!! Puts a new complexion indeed on my sentiments that light and water are slippery mediums! LOL Kate xx
