violent images and a long sigh,
those watching seemed bitten off by flight,
each feather plucked and floating,
vile actions misinterpreted, giving instant release.
when feathers flew, marksmen tottered eerily,
motion suspended, blast in ears
absolute, and a fear rising.
if faces seemed dull, seemed still,
wasn’t it a tightness, a belly-cramp, a serious
regret, with the blue tufts of reality
lilting, slipping into silence?
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
