one of those twisty days, leaves
all assembled and fired up
by winds winding through cavernous
streets, spectators watching from afar,
mini-whirlwinds scratching at their
loafers.
the style was simple, white and black,
the movement subtle and little kids
loved the tempo, the sliding grace,
the motionless walk
practiced all night
to get really good.
no place for phobias, no place
at all to be spooked, yet, yet,
there were those who flinched
for others, their eyes wide with fright,
losing control a bit when tourists
turned to brush off the light touch
on their shoulders to behold
the face, the blank mocking
face, of the mime.
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)
