we all have them, something fishy
sticking in our gum, a receptacle
filled with frozen steel, a current
touching bottom, like ice
water on a cracked tooth.
we all listen to them, heads
perched, a slight tingle in our receptors,
each knuckle cracking
with delight, each sinew bracing
in the night.
we all connect to them, ears
sweating boiled wax, each hair
twitching upright, sensors blinking
in our eyeballs, our feet steady at first,
then racing down alleys while
gunshots fly, and crooked
trees hide behind old barns.

This is very vivid and well done. I enjoyed reading.
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
