the distance between your door and the couch,
a few feet, and I can hear you
breathe, so softly, and I turn the TV down
to listen, my mind seeing your form,
under the covers, and my own breathing speeds,
the thought of me and you so close, the thin
sheet separating us, but my fingers feel
your shape from here,
and so I flick off the TV, stand up and
approach your bed, my clothes
slowly dropping to the floor, the beat
of my heart so strong.
