a solemn crack, the ball lilting
left, then right, near the wicket.
pale gowns let in the sunlight,
to women’s bodies,
the lowering orb pinching
silhouettes between the trees,
its golden rays traversing the court,
the round balls blinking reds and greens,
while breezes move the leaves.
so gentle is the scene, no shouting,
no hurrahs, just a bit of mischief
and a sweet kiss.
