a smile, your body escaping those jeans you wore,
the backseat full of forgotten kisses.
no one really comes home empty,
each thought fills rooms with nudity, the lust protruding
from cedar chests filled
with lingerie.
the quiet brings a distant howl,
some neighbor’s dog caught
between the fences.
no one calls your name, words instead
get caught up in desire, and the single
rose I brought lies on the black kitchen
table, pancake syrup dripping off
the edge of a plate.
