paramecium, then led downstairs
on a leash, letting the flies
lick daisies, outsourcing the hurt
to countries too deeply dense
to propagate surrogate children,
each attempt failing, each
moment lifted from the news
like gastric acid from hamburgers.
trust your instincts and
pretend, avoid late-night snacks,
the fulsome aroma of coffee cake
pushing dreams of oblivion
away, and fooling the senses
of golden retrievers, growling,
tied up to trees.
