Mistaken Flyers learn early (don’t they) Or the fall hums and the air Tumbles. They pluck courage from hearts Cold to emotion, Cold to dynamics Of fear. They search early for smooth surfaces, They long for cement unblemished By tipped elm trees, Waiting for ruin. They protect their mothers’ Memory, cleverly signing Goodbye notes, Just in case the wind Shifts.
