the circus came to town last night
after a bit of pre-show at the club, you in your
black little dress, you with lipstick
smeared like a movie star, one shoulder strap
loose hanging down like a distress signal,
but you weren’t the one distressed,
the audience applauded and you walked
the tight rope, again, drinking
champagne and smiling, your tight ass
still shaking like you might be scared
or looking for more.
