not one word after recess, small bodies
found their seats, their smiles ready
for Sister Mary Alice had her book, her smile,
her head nodding.
each boy, each girl waited,
and Sister waited too,
the quiet was perfect and she
began, her voice so easy, her
excitement so great, the adventure
continued and castles bloomed, knights charged,
and good deeds were done;
each page turned
until ten were done, and at chapter
end Sister paused and closed the book,
but after lunch, and math, and
history the story would flow again
until the end of day.
