Thunder Night

Watertight homes seem vulnerable
As storms approach.

The odd sense of trembling,
A primitive fright while thunder
Rages in the night.

Long has the cold ruled,
Its icy threats underfoot,
Pretty snowflakes
Deadly on the highways.

But night sweats return
As spring bounces past
Morning’s chill.

Darted thunder bolts flash
While tender brains sleep,
The windows yellow
With concussive forces
And ancient fears release.
