illusion, the pictures unreeling
strange lights, a passing car,
the night black yet glowing,
movement halted on the screen,
a passive encounter through a lens
whose eyeball is it?
who changes the focus?
who lurches down avenues
time-lapsed and jerky?
like a front porch
without contact,
like a sniper
in a den,
like some god-like
creature, watchful
and vain,
too distant for love,
yet too close to be strangers.
