so,
yes,
I listened
to some French tunes,
but
I knew where I was going.
Don't think it was
my mistake alone.
I found the street, and my bag
wasn't too heavy, the
weather quite clear
and children playing
in the fountain, others
going home,
their uniforms rather cute,
But,
yes,
I misplaced the address, got frustrated,
knocked on too many doors,
and stopped at the motel.
How did I know where
you were? It was dark
then, and each large apartment
looked gloomy, bricked-up,
with chandeliers in every room,
the families sitting down to supper. Yes,
I looked
in many first floor
rooms after securing my own room,
but
there was dampness in the air
and in my spirit. Only
the French music
by Marie-Claire
kept a smile going,
that and her lovely
words of romance.
Listen,
I did find you
today, and here
we are,
eating croissants.
Happy?
