Sort of the Montreal Harbor

I mean, who would,
not me, but
travel guides lie,
don't they?

and it sounded
like real fun, see
some really old
wharves.

Wharves. Not sure
about that word.
Sounded medieval, and when
we walked by the water,
we saw wharves (no doubt
the first time in my life, though
I had read about them
somewhere. I think,
kindergarten.) But
these wharves were really
really dark, kinda spooky,
but the travel guide said,
"Go there," so
we did.

But this big sucker, some
odd but big ugly guy
was down there too, with
some kinda wrap on his
head.

How ya doin'? I asked.
But he was mean, ugly,
and had no teeth.
I swear.

But we got by him, ignored
him and he went away.

And there were the
wharves.

Lemme tell you,
they're big too,
but in Montreal I thought
maybe they'd be cool
to see.

But no...big disappointment,
and wharves can't be prettied up
or frenchified, I don't care.

But the wharves were gone,
only pictures
showed us where,
they used to thrive,
photos of yesterday
midst modern glitter.

They're wharves, we saw 'em, and
we needed a Mickey D's then to
go with the ambiance.
Maybe some McNuggets.

That guide book
sucked. Who knew the wharves
had disappeared?
