This experience help me to realize the challenges blind people go through daily.
Wow what valor and strength!
I woke up this morning in the fog,
blinded by it and I could not see!
I couldn't see in front of me,
out of my 10th floor apartment window,
nor from my balcony.
For the first time in my life,
I could only imagine what-
it would be like.
to be blind and couldn't see!
Yes a tree right in front of me!
How about seeing a blade of grass.
You and I needing help,
just to touch the green grass.
Or see a rainbow and flowers daily,
crocuses, morning-glories, tulips.
Even raindrops from the sky,
from the clouds on high,
or birds that soar and fly.
I would bow my head and cry!
I can't say I would rather die!
But I would be in misery,
after having sight to see!
Can you imagine being blind?
I would be terrified scared to death.
And all that I visualize and see,
now I don't see and possibly,
never to see again, darkness!
Why I marvel at people like Ray Charles. Being able to live a full life with great accomplishment even though blind from a young age. You are right to fear blindness but it can be overcome like any misfortune that befall so many. Fear is only the things we don't understand. When we understand our fear, we can overcome it.
My brief experience with blindness was when I visited my brother's place in the desert outside Phoenix. In the middle of the night I had to get up and go to the bathroom. I was used to outdoor lights streaming through my windows always giving my apartments and houses enough light for me to get around in. However, that night there was only utter darkness and I had to grope my way to the bathroom… A truly blind experience. It is much harder to hit the toilet unless you have the seat up and your shins touching the toilet on both sides to tell you where it is. ;-)
Deep thoughts in this poem and it reminds me of what a preacher once told me. Darkness is the absence of light. Jesus is The Truth and the Light. We believe in Him so we will always see the light. Can you imagine eternal darkness? No, we don't have to except to warn others. For we will be together in His Eternal Light. Oh, Happy Day! Amen

These song lyrics and art are tales, tides and twinkling lights - tunes telling stories of warmth and sun, city and sand, paths that lead, and the coins we can keep in the Karma Bank. Spirit's been bypassed for sorrow, dreaming of a better tomorrow .
