Coming home at last After the final blast I’m consumed by grief My comrades stuck with no relief War is hell we’ve all been told But look at those vets lucky to be old Never a smile when they salute the flag The mind’s elsewhere where spirits sag Men and women in uniform serve us proud Silence defines their character, not loud Our country was founded on protecting our shore A fact that we should not ignore Taps pervades the hillsides across our land Where soldiers lay having died in sand Liberty is bought by our soldiers’ blood While heavenly gates receive the flood Let us remember our comrades in arms Take a moment to ponder why no alarms For the men and women in uniform Take off your hat and salute, don’t scorn They die each day for you and me Some in public, but most we don’t see Wars will continue as long as humans live Because we don’t choose to forgive Remember this day in silent pride For those brave souls buried side by side White markers, simple and stark Mark those who lived, now apart The eleventh month, day, and hour Reminds us of their awesome power Thank God, they’re home at last Never forget, remember their past

I will always be grateful for those who, knowingly, put themselves in harms way that I may know freedom. No soldier wants to die, but most say that the cause is worth the risk. To all who have served, I am humbled by your courage, your sense of commitment and your bravery. Thank you for this excellent tribute, Keith.

Thank you for good words about good deeds done. We should remember, too, that those who died in combat or in military service, didn't GIVE their lives for their country. Life was taken from them, and this changes all the heroics and patriotic praise handed off without understanding of war's cost. At least it does for me. - Bill
