Sweet Child of God

Sleep my innocent one
Now that your work is done
Toils and tribulation there were many
But always a smile on your journey
Lights dim now rest your thoughts
Free from the shoulds and oughts

Sleep oh precious child
You stole my heart with your smile
Now dream of fairies and sugarplums
Toy soldiers and Tweedledum
A life filled with merriment
No time to cry and lament

Sleep my child of God
You now lay still with nary a nod
Reposed in fresh white linen
Ever sweet and most feminine
You carry your mother’s eyes
Now join her in the temple on high

I’ve been blessed to share you two
During your brief visit with me too
I shall miss your laughter and joy
Surrounded by your favorite toys
Surrender your spirit my sweet angel
To God’s hands, strong but nimble

This one is wonderfully-written. A precious feeling of that special moment to be treasured like a photograph in our mind, and the writing also works as a wonderful lullaby that is hypnotic. Thank you for a wonderful write!
